Origins
Superior Diesel originates as a division of Ison Equipment in Monico, Wisconsin. Ison is the John Deere Construction and Forestry dealer and became the engine distributor for Wisconsin, Michigan, Northern Illinois, and Northwest Indiana.
Established in 1977 in Northern Wisconsin

With decades of experience and a commitment to technical excellence, Superior Diesel specializes in John Deere and Kohler (Rehlko) diesel engines, as well as Funk Drivetrain components. Operating across a 33‑state territory throughout the Midwest, Northeast, West and Atlantic coast regions, the company serves OEMs and dealers from its primary facilities in Rhinelander, Wisconsin and Seville, Ohio, along with its wholly owned subsidiary, Bell Power Systems in Essex, Connecticut. Together, we deliver custom-engineered power packages, comprehensive parts support, and integrated drivetrain solutions designed to meet the unique needs of each application.

Timeline
Established as a Stand-Alone Entity
Superior Diesel, Inc. changes ownership to become a stand-alone entity independent from Ison Equipment and relocates operations to North Stevens Street in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
Product Addition
Superior Diesel adds John Deere’s Funk branded pump drives to its product offering.
Expansion
Superior Diesel completes construction and relocates to a new, larger 49,000 SQFT facility on Fox Ranch Road, in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
Strategic Acquisition
Superior Diesel acquires Heartland Engine Company of Medina OH, adding a full service facility and additional John Deere Power Systems distribution territory to include Ohio, Eastern Indiana, Kentucky, Western New York, Western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
Product Addition
Superior Diesel adds the full Funk Drivetrain line to its product offering including axles, transmissions, and planetary gear drives.
Expansion
Superior Diesel relocates its Ohio operations to a new, larger 40,000 SQFT facility on Greenwich Road in Seville, Ohio.
Strategic Acquisition
Superior Diesel acquires Bell Power Systems of Essex CT, adding a 50,000 SQFT full service facility and additional John Deere Power Systems and Yanmar distribution territory to include Eastern New York, Eastern Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia.
Product Addition
Superior Diesel adds the Kohler Diesel engine line to its product offering with a 19 state distribution territory in the Midwestern and Eastern United States.
Expansion
Superior Diesel completes a 12,000 SQFT expansion to its Essex, Connecticut (Bell Power Systems) facility. The expansion provides additional space for production, material storage, engineering services, and product testing.

Superior Diesel adds the Zenith Power Products line of spark-ignited engines to its product offering.
Expansion
Superior Diesel completes a 50,000 SQFT expansion to its Rhinelander, WI facility, doubling the size. The expansion provides additional space for production, material storage, and product testing.
Expansion
Superior Diesel completes a 40,000 SQFT expansion to its Seville, OH facility to support the ongoing growth of large engine sales. Included with this addition are overhead cranes with 200 ft of runway, a drive-in dock to load semis, and a dyno room to test up to 2,000 hp.
Strategic Acquisition
Superior Diesel acquires Diesel-Bec Power Solutions and New Way Power Solutions of Canada, adding additional John Deere Power Systems, Yanmar Industrial / Marine, and Rehlko Industrial / Marine distribution territory to include Quebec, Atlantic Canada, Ontario, and Manitoba.
